Role Purpose:

Save the Children is committed to uphold child rights by putting children and communities at the centre of our work in in humanitarian setting ensuring genuine accountability to those we serve during crisis. 

This role will lead organisational efforts to transform accountability to communities within both our humanitarian responses and wider programmes. The core task of the position is to coordinate the development and/or delivery of policy, strategy, technical advice, and capacity strengthening on accountability to communities, using a rights-based approach. Within the Humanitarian Rights and Reform pillar, this role will also contribute to a vision for transformative action on key areas of humanitarian reform. Working collaboratively within Save the Children and across the sector, this role will seek to strengthen accountability both internally and within the sector, helping to establish Save the Children as a sector leader on accountability to children.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

• Significant experience working directly in humanitarian responses including in complex contexts to design, implement and evaluate programmes.
• Experience working in Save the Children with known ability to work across a network of international stakeholders to advance accountability to communities.
• Significant experience in setting up accountability systems in responses, including feedback mechanisms and information sharing processes using multi-modal approaches.
• Experience in designing, managing, and supporting others to implement meaningful and ethical child participation in different stages of the programme and response cycle (needs analysis and assessment, design and planning, implementation, M&E and advocacy).
• Experience incorporating children's intersectionality into humanitarian programmes.
• Knowledge of and adherence to the humanitarian standards (Sphere, CHS etc) and demonstrable experience implementing them in practice
• Understanding of how accountability to communities supports protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), safeguarding and safe programming.
• Knowledge of policy, research, and evidence-based methodologies with regards to accountability to communities, and relevant child focused programming.
• Creativity, problem-solving ability, energy and the drive to create change in a large complex organisation, while constantly adapting approaches.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, inspiring, negotiation and coaching – ability to work with all levels from CEO to junior staff and across all functions.
• Commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion within Save the Children.
• Fluent spoken and written English
• The capacity and willingness to be flexible in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.

Desirable:

Additional languages, particularly French, Spanish and/or Arabic.

We can offer the option of flexible working hours. 

This role can be based in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location for the duration of the contract.
